Miriam Mahdaviani established her reputation as a choreographer during her thirteen year career as a dancer with the New York City Ballet. Ms. Mahdaviani has been commissioned to choreograph new works for New York City Ballet, as well as for dance companies around the country, dating back to 1986.
Ms. Mahdaviani is a frequent guest teacher of the advanced ballet classes at Vassar College. She has produced original works for dance programs at several colleges, including the Vassar Repertory Dance Theater (VRDT). In addition, she has choreographed musicals for a number of New York theater companies.
Ms. Mahdaviani periodically conducts master classes in choreography and in Balanchine technique. At the request of the George Balanchine Trust, she staged Balanchine ballets for the Israel Ballet in Tel Aviv. Ms. Mahdaviani has received numerous awards for choreography, including Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award and the prestigious Choo-San Goh Award.
